Hurricane Lala – Important Visitor Notice

Kilauea Military Camp (KMC) is closely monitoring Hurricane Lala and its potential impact on Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park and the surrounding area. The safety of our guests, employees, and community is our highest priority.

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Closure

Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park is scheduled to close at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 14, 2026.

At this time, KMC lodging patrons will be permitted to enter the Park gate and remain at KMC. However, park access and operating conditions may change quickly as the storm approaches.

All visitors remaining in the park will be advised to shelter in place before and during the storm event and follow all official emergency instructions.

KMC Facility Operations

The following KMC facilities will be affected during the hurricane event:

  • Crater Rim Café: Already Closed due to previous weather event.
  • Lava Lounge: Closed during the event
  • KMC General Store: Closed during the event
  • Bowling Alley: Closed during the event
  • 10 Pin Grill: Open with limited service

Facility operations may change depending on weather conditions, safety concerns, and official guidance.

Guests and visitors are encouraged to adjust their plans accordingly and prepare for possible changes to access, services, and facility operations.

Please monitor official updates and follow all emergency instructions from park and local authorities. Additional closures or restrictions may be implemented as conditions develop.
